K107 107.0 FM

K107 is a community radio station licenced by Ofcom providing an alternative broader service compared to BBC and commercial radio for Kirkcaldy & district on 107FM and online worldwide 24 hours a day.

K107 members are trained in various skills and listeners form a wide demographic.

Live programming features arts, sports, culture and local information as well as commerce, business and issues pertinent to the area.

As the station is not concentrating on profit as a key performance indicator, (being a social enterprise) K107 use more social targets as a measure of success. Inclusion and involvement of listeners will feature at the top of the key measures and reflected in the diversity policy.

K107 foster personal links with our audience through an interactive approach to all live programming, allowing listeners to communicate with us using many methods with text, phone and email to the live studio.

K107 serves Kirkcaldy (the major town in the county of Fife)with a population of 48,108 (in 2006 census) along with surrounding villages of Dysart, Cluny, Thornton, Kinghorn, East Wemyss and parts of Glenrothes where the local government offices are based.

Kirkcaldy Area as defined by Fife Constabulary has a population of 57,500 in traditionally an area of mining and the flooring industry these have declined significantly with the major employer now Fife Council.

K107 FM plans to identify specific communities of interest: including ethnic, cultural and social. The medium would embrace community groups, schools, students, unemployed people, the elderly and those with disabilities. Programming reflects local life in all its aspects and involves a multitude of local voices. The programming schedule ensures that the focus of programme covers a wide range of community interests with programmes catering for the needs and interests of young people through to the elderly. 

The sound of K107 FM can be identified as being locally produced community broadcasting. The information given and discussions on air reflect the local needs and issues primarily while local comments on national issues would engage with the community at large.

K107 organise live events for the many youth bands, school choirs and musicians and pop/rock groups such as concerts, in store and street events.
