Speysound Radio

Speysound
107.1 FM

The station provides a service for the people of Badenoch and Strathspey and the surrounding area.

Speysound radio started broadcasting in 1993 initially as ‘Ski FM’ with RSLs during the winter ski-ing season

Since then the service has shared airtime with MFR (Moray Firth Radio) on the local Aviemore relay transmitter on 96.6 FM.

An exciting point in the development of Speysound was the decision to apply to regulator Ofcom for a Community Radio Licence to enable a full-time service rather than the opt-out service via the MFR FM frequency. Ofcom awarded a licence in June 2007 which provided Speysound with its own FM frequency.

Ofcom has allocated 107.1 MHz FM for the all new Speysound community service from a transmitter situated on the Cairngorm mountains at 1,094 metre above sea level which provides a transmission area covering Aviemore and the entire Spey Valley and Badenoch area.

Speysound on 107.1 FM launched on 6 December 2009 primarily with an evening programme service and using MFR as a daytime sustaining programme service.
